Nervism |
Shion “Nervism” Williams is originally from Decatur, Georgia where he attended Tucker High School’s M2M Art program. Shion quickly started learning how to advance his skill and knowledge of art in the program, studying with his instructor who designed one of Super Bowl 28’s many posters, along with other Atlanta based artists. In 1995 Shion’s mom moved them to Cleveland, Ohio to be closer to family members. She enrolled him into Euclid High School’s Art program where he excelled and decided to join the work-study program. During the last year of high school Shion started to explore different forms of art, one of those art forms was graffiti. He learned the craft from local graffiti writers, and eventually became a respected local graffiti writer after going through many trials and tribulations trying to learn the art. Shion graduated from high school in 1996 and attended Cuyahoga Community College where he attempted to earn an Associates degree in the Arts. He was unsuccessful due to his first son being born in 1997 and his mom’s declining health, so he withdrew from school. After many years of running from law enforcement for putting up illegal graffiti pieces, he decided to go back to school to give it a second try. So in 2003 he attended Lakeland Community College where he met some instructors who would change his perspective of art. Shion knew that he would not attain the degree in art that he sought after at Lakeland, so he got close to his instructors learning everything that he could from them. Paul Frasier was one of the instructors that he befriended. Frasier was a sculpting instructor who did commissioned works at school for customers. This discovery changed Shion’s perspective because it was the first time that he witnessed art being able to make money. When the first year at Lakeland was over, Shion used everything that he learned from his instructors and created Nervism Klothing in 2003. Shion Williams used artist acrylic to put his artwork on shirts when he got started. Then he quickly progressed to all other articles of clothing including shoes and hats. For two years he would sell his product out of the trunk of his car and to friends of friends until his uncle found out about the underground company he made. In 2005 Shion’s uncle decided to step in to help him turn his vision into a real company, so he introduced him to some friends that were in position to do some big things. As a result in those meetings Nervism clothing has done pieces for Usher, LeBron James, Harlem Globetrotters, Devin Greene, Souljah Boy Tell Em, Freeway, Shaquille O’neil, Lil Boosie, Ray Cash, UGK, and many local celebrities in the Cleveland, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia area. Nervism Klothing has also designed shirts for BOOST Mobile andMiles Ahead Ent. for their annual kids basketball camp and youth awareness camp. In 2007,2008, 2009 Nervism clothing has been nominated for 4 designer of the year awards, appeared in several videos, and sold several thousand shirts to retail stores and customers.
